Today was a trial run for me since coming down with the funk.
9 slow, steady, never taken it faster than being able to only have to breath out of my nose kind-of-run…It was magical! my legs were throwing a little victory party and my lungs weren’t burning 😉
I even felt warm enough again to wear my usual treadmill getup, (aka, the only thing I feel I won’t melt in)…earlier this week I had the chills super bad…I was wearing a long sleeve, under a sweatshirt, under a fleece, under a down vest…seriously.
I even felt froggy enough to pull off 8 full pull-ups!
Thank you Bodhi for the awesome camera work 😉 Thank you Trout for shooting mom with a nerf dart; nothing like making me work at keeping my focus strong trying not to fall off after getting hit out of the blue in the ear 😉
I don’t use a gym or keep up with the fancy new ways to stay fit and strong, (I would love to, but can’t find the time)….my regiment is typically push-ups, squats, lunges, planks, mountain climbers…and now pull ups are in the rotation….However, I forget holding a flailing toddler while trying to check out at the grocery store or trying to hold both boys from taking off in the parking lot and simultaneously loading up the car…is all the strength/cross-training I need!
Life is not at all “normal” again. Bodhi and I are still getting back into the routine of life (and school). He has been a real trooper going from Netflix marathons to having to do some legit school work.
Upon Bodhi request, we dyed eggs tonight as well as made cupcakes for the Easter Bunny.
Typically we have carrots left out for her to snack on…the girl works hard! This year….Bodhi and I agreed that lemon cupcakes with blueberry frosting was a much needed change of pace…sometimes a girl needs a cupcake 😉
Hopefully Bodhi doesn’t pick-up on the fact that mom has been craving lots of blueberries the same time the Easter Bunny just happened to need some cupcakes with blueberries in the frosting….it’s an easy coincidence right?
Our eggs turned out great! I would like to try the “all natural” process of dying….but there is something so incredibly nostalgic about dying eggs the way we did as kids. Thanks to the suggestion on the box about using vinegar with the dye….our eggs were vibrant! Too bad eggs don’t come looking this way naturally….it would be a great way to get kids to eat eggs if that was a struggle at meal time, (like it is with us and my oldest).
After feeling the most normal since feeling sick….I can officially say that REST IS GOOD! I am not worried a bit about taking time off for a couple of days after I’ve trained so hard these past months; in fact, I think my body does better when there is an intentional long rest thrown in every once in a while.
Along with rest, I have made a point from here until Boston to do this plank routine every day (or something similar). Planks are a great way for me to keep up my running form and to ward off injury….I’m a believer!
