The couple that sweats together…

You know that old saying, the couple that plays together stays together, or is it prays?, eats?, hmmmmm….I don’t know, but I do know the couple that sweats together…..has more laundry! ha!

In all seriousness, I do see a difference, for the better, between myself and my other half after taking up being active together.  It’s funny how we have been a couple for over 10 years, (yikes, time flies!) and I am just discovering how much fun it is to be with this person.  Don’t get me wrong, there are days where we both want to throw each other off a bridge…but, that is far and few between and I can honestly say that I am quite fond of my “friend for life” and I hope he feels the same way about me.

Okay! so enough of the love fest.  I felt appropriate to mention us working out together, because I think all too often couples after having kids, full-time jobs, and many other life changes find it difficult to see the joy in spending time together.  It’s not that the other person is not worthwhile….you’re just so darn tired at the end of the day all you want to do is collapse into bed and sleep.

It is not a stretch to say that my husband works hard, too hard…and work has been taking a toll on his health.  I took it upon myself, for the millionth time, to motivate him to come hang out with me while I venture over to the high school to tackle some stairs.  This time he took the bait, (or maybe he is finally seeing the value in staying in shape) and decided to join me.

The first couple of times it sounded a lot like this

Husband: “groan! I hate you”

Me: {bopping up the steps with minimal effort} “come on babe! you’re doing great! isn’t this fun!!!”

Husband: “I’m killing you with my mind” (promise he is really sweet, but I would find myself hugely annoying if I were him and I had a freak bopping around me with excitement to be working out)

Me: “I love you…please don’t hate me.”

….the workout would end with him hugging me half-hazardly and then whispering….”you suck, but I love you…thank you for pushing me.”

It has been a couple of weeks since our first go at this working out together again and he is doing so much better.  I love that I don’t have to remind him that we are going to the stairs Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings…he has me beat and reminds me!  I believe this last session I actually caught him cheering me on!

the awkward pose, before the intentional “awkward pose” we are not a lovey dovey selfy kind of couple

yes. we always look this good…look, he’s smiling! success!

Wether this trend sticks, (which I hope it does)….I am thankful for the quality time these last few weeks has given us, I feel like it’s breathing wind into us both and warding off our usual evening fatigue.  I’d like to think that through it all, the demands of work, kids, keeping up our home, life….we find solace and strength in one another and push the other to be the best version of ourselves…hopefully it will continue…I will keep you posted!

Cuteness alert!  This boy got his costume in the mail; no I am not making costumes this year….judge away, I’ll chose what takes my sanity…costumes is not going to be what does it this year

Do you and your spouse, partner, mate, better-half….you pick the name…work out together?
